Born in Hong Kong, Ryan studied under Palmer at Ivy University before discovering his secret: his mentor was a superhero capable of altering his size. When Palmer disappears, he leaves Ryan a shrinking belt powered by a dwarf star crystal. Becoming the new Atom, Ryan protects the innocent and joins the Justice League of America.
